Sanjay Nirupam Claims ₹4 Crore Received from Anti-India Groups; Demands Sedition Charges

Mumbai – Comedian Kunal Kamra has illegally received ₹4 crores in foreign funding as part of an alleged international conspiracy to defame India, the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde claimed Shiv Sena Deputy Leader and Spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam at a press conference in Mumbai today.

Nirupam alleged that Kamra’s YouTube satire shows and parody songs have been used to target India’s leadership and tarnish the nation’s image globally. He claimed that Kamra’s funding sources include Canada, Australia, the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, with contributions from individuals belonging to a particular community. He also raised suspicions that religious leaders may have issued a fatwa to support Kamra’s funding.

One of the alleged donors, Ford Foundation, has been previously accused of funding anti-India groups, Nirupam stated. He further claimed that Kamra’s parody song “Hum Honge Kangal” has damaged India’s global reputation, and Canadian-based anti-India organisations are suspected to be involved in his financial backing.

Under Section 3 of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), journalists, columnists, cartoonists, editors, media broadcasting companies, and YouTubers cannot accept foreign funding. Nirupam asserted that Kamra’s actions were a direct violation of FEMA, warranting a sedition case against him. He alleged that Kamra is currently hiding in Tamil Nadu and warned that no one can escape the law.

He also linked Kamra to the UBT group, citing Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s statements. Furthermore, he revealed that Kamra’s show producer, a woman named Shetty, has received financial support from the Ford Foundation, which is allegedly linked to George Soros—an individual accused of destabilising governments worldwide.

In a separate demand, Shiv Sena is calling for a ban on the open sale of meat during the Navratri festival from Gudi Padwa to Ram Navami. Nirupam highlighted that over 250 shawarma vendors operate in Andheri alone, arguing that public sale of chicken, mutton, and kebabs is offensive to Hindu sentiments during the festival. Shiv Sena workers will formally request police intervention today, he stated.

The allegations against Kamra and the demand for a Navratri meat ban are expected to trigger political and legal debates in the coming days.
