New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, asserting that if Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar refuse to support it, the bill will not be passed.

While speaking to ANI, Owaisi launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dependent on Naidu and Kumar to push through legislation. He also accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of misleading the country regarding the bill.

“Amit Shah is the Home Minister of India, and his statement is proof that they are trying to pass an unconstitutional law that can be challenged in court. This bill violates constitutional provisions and will severely impact Waqf properties across the country. Who will benefit from the removal of Waqf sections? You are taking away revenue worth lakhs of rupees. Amit Shah is lying by saying that the Waqf Tribunal can be challenged in court. PM Modi relies on Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu. If they do not support this unconstitutional bill, it will not pass,” Owaisi said.

On Friday, Owaisi joined the symbolic ‘black band’ protest against the Waqf Bill, wearing a black armband while offering prayers.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah confirmed that the Waqf Amendment Bill, based on the report submitted by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), will be tabled in the Budget session of Parliament, which is set to conclude on April 4.

“Nobody needs to fear the Waqf Bill. In 2013, the Congress-led government passed the Waqf Bill with several provisions that are not in alignment with our Constitution. We are now attempting to bring it in line with constitutional principles,” Shah said.
