Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati has fiercely condemned the Samajwadi Party (SP) for allegedly using Dalit leaders for political gains, following SP MP Ramji Lal Suman’s controversial remarks on 16th-century Rajput king Rana Sanga.

In a sharp statement on X (formerly Twitter), Mayawati accused the Samajwadi Party of playing divisive politics and urged Dalits to remain cautious of such tactics.

“The dirty politics that SP is doing by putting forward its Dalit leaders for its political gains, that is, it is trying to harm them, is not right. Dalits should be cautious of all their tactics. The incident that happened in Agra is very worrying,” Mayawati posted.

Violence Erupts in Agra After SP MP’s Statement on Rana Sanga

The controversy erupted after Ramji Lal Suman allegedly called Rana Sanga a “traitor”, accusing him of bringing Mughal emperor Babur to India to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. The statement triggered massive outrage, leading to violent protests outside Suman’s residence in Agra on Wednesday.

Unidentified individuals pelted stones, smashed windows, and vandalized vehicles parked outside the SP MP’s house. The protests have intensified demands for Suman to apologize and face action for his remarks.

Agra Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sanjeev Tyagi confirmed the violence, stating:

“People resorted to pelting stones, breaking window panes, and vandalizing vehicles outside the MP’s house following Ramji Lal Suman’s statement.”

Mayawati Warns Against SP’s “Divisive Politics”

Taking a strong stand, Mayawati criticized SP for insulting communities for political advantage. She warned that such tactics would disturb peace and harmony in society.

“It is not right for SP to demean any community to serve its own interests. They create a negative image of one community while favoring another. This behavior will disrupt the peace and harmony in society, which is not acceptable,” Mayawati stated.

Historical Significance of Rana Sanga

Rana Sanga, also known as Maharana Sangram Singh I, ruled Mewar from 1508 to 1528 and is revered for his bravery and sacrifices. Many historians credit him for his fierce resistance against the Mughals and other invaders. His name holds deep historical and cultural significance in India.

Political Repercussions and Demand for Action

The controversy has now taken a political turn, with opposition leaders and Rajput community groups demanding strict action against Ramji Lal Suman. Many are calling for an official apology, while others demand legal proceedings against the SP MP for his comments.

Authorities have been put on high alert in Agra to prevent further unrest. Security forces have been deployed near Suman’s residence and key locations to control the situation.
