Sonipat: A local BJP leader, Surendra Jawahar, was shot dead on Friday night in Haryana’s Sonipat district over a long-standing land dispute, police confirmed.

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm in Jawahar village when the accused, identified as Mannu, allegedly fired three bullets at Jawahar. The dispute revolved around three bighas of land that was already the subject of a court case.

Eyewitnesses said Jawahar had previously paid ₹5 lakh for the land, but Mannu refused to complete the transfer. Despite warnings, Jawahar went to the site on Friday night to clear the land, leading to a violent confrontation.

His uncle, Sultan Singh, stated, “Surendra had been dealing with this land issue for a long time. The accused had been threatening him, but we never thought it would come to this.”
