Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) hires 11 candidates from a batch of 21 who successfully completed training as Gas Pipeline Fitters

Mumbai: Twenty-one young men and women from Dharavi have successfully completed training as Gas Pipeline Fitters under the Dharavi Social Mission (DSM) in partnership with Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute (DBITI), Mumbai. Of them, 11 have been hired by Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL), including two women — a rare achievement in this field.

The two-month training programme, held from December 12, 2024, to February 20, 2025, provided hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills. Each trainee received a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000. Those hired now earn over Rs 15,000 per month, securing stable jobs for themselves and their families.

Dharavi has always been home to hardworking and talented people. Many young residents dream of better opportunities, and DSM helps to turn those dreams into reality.

Sonali Ramesh, one of the newly hired women from the programme, said, “I never thought I would find a job in this sector. The training at DSM gave me confidence, and now I see a stable future ahead. More women should come forward and explore new career paths.”

Avnish Gupta, another graduate, said, “This programme has changed our lives. Many of us had no direction, but now we have skills and jobs. DSM has brought lot of opportunities for Dharavikars, especially for women.”

The Dharavi Social Mission (DSM) aims to create more such opportunities. “We want to equip Dharavi’s youth with the right skills to secure their future. Our goal is to provide real and sustainable opportunities to the people of Dharavi,” a DSM spokesperson said.

Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has been impressed with Dharavi’s skilled workforce. Appreciating the resource procurement from Dharavi, an MGL spokesperson said, “The youth here are talented and hardworking. We are happy and hope to continue hiring from DSM and providing them with stable careers.”

Through such training programmes, the Dharavi Social Mission is helping young people gain industry-relevant skills, find jobs, and build a better future.
