New Delhi: Congress MP Manish Tewari on Thursday criticized the new Income Tax Bill, arguing that it is more complicated than the existing one, despite Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s claims of simplification. He pointed out that the new bill has over 500 sections compared to 296 in the previous one and 14 schedules instead of five.
The bill, set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha, is expected to be referred to a Select Committee for further examination. Sitharaman had earlier assured that the bill would undergo parliamentary scrutiny before final approval.
