Mumbai – Maharashtra’s public healthcare system has long been neglected, and the situation remains dire. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed its critical shortcomings, but even today, citizens—especially in rural areas—struggle to receive adequate medical care.

Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) Vice President Nilesh Bhosale has accused the state government of failing to address the growing healthcare crisis. He highlighted the alarming spread of Gullain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Pune and slammed the state health minister for neither conducting an on-ground inspection nor addressing the issue publicly. Bhosale has demanded a thorough enquiry and questioned why the government has not launched an awareness campaign on precautionary measures, symptoms, and available treatment facilities.

Medical Negligence at Shatabdi Hospital Exposes Maharashtra’s Failing Healthcare System

Bhosale further alleged that a horrifying incident at Mumbai’s Shatabdi Hospital has once again exposed the crumbling state of Maharashtra’s healthcare infrastructure. In December, a shocking case of medical negligence was reported, but no action has been taken so far.

Due to a severe shortage of professional medical staff, hospital administration allegedly allowed a sanitation worker to perform an ECG (Electrocardiogram) test on a female patient!

Fortunately, a relative accompanying the patient objected, preventing what could have been a disastrous outcome. However, Bhosale pointed out that this incident raises serious concerns:
• Where was the hospital administration, including the dean and responsible doctors?
• Why hasn’t the BMC initiated staff recruitment?
• Why has there been no disciplinary action even after this incident was exposed?

“This is not the first case of medical negligence at Shatabdi Hospital,” Bhosale remarked. “Yet, the government remains indifferent, showing a blatant disregard for the lives of ordinary citizens.”

A Healthcare System in Need of Life Support!

Despite being an economically developed state, Maharashtra has consistently failed to prioritize its healthcare sector. Rural areas suffer from a severe shortage of doctors and medical facilities, leading to preventable deaths due to lack of treatment.

Taking note of these issues, Bhosale strongly criticized the government, stating: “The healthcare system itself now needs a ventilator to survive.”

Bhosale has demanded an immediate and thorough investigation into the Shatabdi Hospital incident, urgent recruitment of medical staff, and increased investment in public healthcare. He warned that if the government fails to act, it will face massive public outrage.
