New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed a stormy session on Monday as Opposition MPs raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the recent Maha Kumbh Mela stampede in Prayagraj, which claimed at least 30 lives.

Slogans like “Modi-Yogi down down” and “Modi-Yogi shame shame” echoed in the House, disrupting the proceedings as the Question Hour continued amid the uproar.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla criticized the Opposition for disrupting proceedings, questioning whether MPs were sent by voters to “ask questions or break tables.” Despite repeated appeals, sloganeering persisted throughout the session.

At the end of Question Hour, Birla urged MPs to raise their concerns during the Motion of Thanks for the President’s Address, instead of disrupting the House.

“I have said earlier that the Question Hour should never be interrupted. It is your collective responsibility to ensure it continues. Issues should be raised after 12 pm,” he stated, urging lawmakers to maintain parliamentary decorum.

The uproar in Parliament comes as questions mount over the handling of the Maha Kumbh Mela stampede in Uttar Pradesh, with the Opposition blaming the BJP-led state and central governments for lapses in crowd management.
