Patna: Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishor was granted “unconditional” bail on Monday, just hours after being sent to 14-day judicial custody. His release came amid a day of political turmoil in Patna following his arrest during a fast-unto-death protest against the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, which he alleges was marred by a paper leak.
Kishor, a prominent political strategist, was arrested by the police from Gandhi Maidan after his protest demanding the cancellation of the BPSC exam gained significant attention. He had been fasting for five days to highlight the issue of corruption surrounding the alleged paper leak, which he claimed had compromised the integrity of the examination process.
According to the police, Kishor and his supporters were removed from the protest site because the demonstration was taking place near a restricted area, making it an “illegal” assembly. Despite the tense situation, Kishor’s arrest sparked outrage among his supporters, who expressed concern over the state’s handling of the protest.
Following his arrest, Prashant Kishor was taken into judicial custody for 14 days. However, in a swift legal turn, he was granted unconditional bail, allowing him to walk out of jail later in the evening.
Kishor has announced that he will hold a press conference at 8 pm to address the media and his supporters following his release. The press conference is expected to shed light on his future plans regarding the BPSC issue and other political matters in Bihar.
