New Delhi: The nation bid an emotional farewell to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, as his last rites were performed at the Nigam Bodh Ghat in the capital on Saturday. Dr. Singh, a statesman whose leadership and economic reforms left an indelible mark on India’s history, was cremated with full state honours.

In a poignant tribute to his legacy, Dr. Singh’s iconic blue turban adorned him during his final journey, a symbol of the humility and intellect that defined his life.

The ceremony saw the attendance of the country’s top dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who joined Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders in paying their respects. Congress stalwarts Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge were also present, reflecting the cross-party admiration for the late leader. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alongside other Congress members, offered heartfelt condolences.

Adding an international dimension to the farewell, the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, attended the ceremony, underlining Dr. Singh’s contributions to India’s diplomatic ties and regional cooperation.
