New Delhi: In the wake of the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) National President Mayawati has called on the Central government to establish a memorial in his honour. She suggested the location of the memorial should align with the wishes of Dr. Singh’s family, ensuring it reflects the dignity and legacy of the renowned statesman.

Dr. Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, was a towering figure in Indian politics and economics. Widely regarded as the “Architect of India’s Economic Reforms,” he led the nation as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, steering the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

In her statement, Mayawati highlighted Dr. Singh’s immense contributions to the country’s economic transformation and governance, emphasizing that a memorial would serve as a tribute to his unwavering dedication to public service.

The last rites of the former Prime Minister are scheduled to be conducted with full state honours at Delhi’s Nigam Bodh Ghat. The funeral will see the attendance of top dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and leaders across the political spectrum.
