In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district, Ram Gopal, who lost four family members to a brutal murder, has demanded that his son’s killer face the same fate. The chilling remarks come in the wake of the violent attack that claimed the lives of Sunil Kumar, a government school teacher, his wife Poonam, and their two young daughters, Drishti and Suni, aged six and one, respectively.
The horrific murder took place on Thursday at the family’s rented home in the Ahorwa Bharwani area. Reports indicate that an unknown assailant entered their residence and opened fire, leaving the family dead. Ram Gopal expressed his anguish and anger, stating, “My son’s killer must meet the same fate,” highlighting the deep pain and desperation felt by the grieving father.
Authorities have identified Chandan Verma as the prime suspect in the case. Ram Gopal’s daughter-in-law, Poonam, had previously filed a complaint against Verma under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. This complaint alleged that Verma had been harassing her. The police are currently investigating any possible links between the harassment allegations and the subsequent murder of the family.
Anoop Kumar Singh, the Amethi Superintendent of Police, revealed that Poonam had warned in her complaint, “If anything happens to me or my family, Verma should be held responsible for it.” This statement has raised concerns about the failure to protect the family despite the reported threats they faced.
In response to the tragedy, a three-member medical team conducted post-mortem examinations of the bodies under videography to ensure transparency in the investigation. Five police teams have been assigned to delve deeper into the case, aiming to bring the perpetrator to justice.
In the wake of this harrowing event, Ram Gopal has taken the four bodies back to their native village, Sudamapur, in Rae Bareli’s Unchahar, where the family will be mourned and remembered. The local community is in shock over the brutal nature of the crime, as residents come to terms with the loss of innocent lives.
