Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Britain’s King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer following a recent hospital procedure for a benign prostate enlargement. While the specific type of cancer was not disclosed by the palace, the statement emphasized that the 75-year-old monarch has begun treatment and maintains a positive outlook.

Despite his health challenges, King Charles III will continue fulfilling his duties as Head of State, focusing on essential paperwork and private meetings while postponing public engagements based on medical advice.

The palace statement explained, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.” It further added, “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”

Expressing gratitude to his medical team for their prompt attention, the King remains optimistic about his treatment and anticipates resuming full public duties at the earliest opportunity. His decision to share his diagnosis aims to dispel speculation and foster understanding, particularly for those affected by cancer worldwide.

Over the weekend, King Charles III and Queen Camilla were photographed attending a church service in Sandringham, Norfolk, marking his first public appearance since being discharged from the London Clinic. Following this, he traveled to London for outpatient treatment and is now recuperating at his palace in the capital.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak extended well wishes to the monarch, stating, “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.”

As King Charles III navigates his health journey, the nation remains united in support, awaiting his return to robust health and his resumption of public duties.
