The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Nagpur Metro Rail Project) has received the Regional Transport Authority’s green signal for initiating a shared auto rickshaw service from 37 metro stations, marking a step towards accessible and affordable feeder services.
Maha Metro presented a comprehensive proposal to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), including detailed surveys of areas surrounding each of the 37 stations, outlining the distances and requested fares for auto rickshaws. The initiative aims to provide convenient first and last-mile connectivity for metro commuters.
A recent meeting held at Metro Bhavan brought together key stakeholders, including Regional Transport Officer Shri Rambhau Geete, DCP Traffic Smt. Chetana Tidke, officials from NMC, and various departments of Maha Metro, chaired by MD Shri Shravan Hardikar.
RTO Geete confirmed the submission of fare fixation proposals to the DCP Traffic, who assured swift consideration. The proposal is set to advance to the district collector, also the RTA chairman, for final approval, expected shortly.
MD Shravan Hardikar directed Metro officials to identify suitable parking spaces across the city and collaborate with the City Police’s Traffic Department for joint surveys, ensuring efficient implementation of this innovative initiative.
The primary objective behind this endeavor is to bridge the gap and provide seamless connectivity for metro passengers, with auto rickshaw fares to be regulated by the RTA for commuter convenience.
