The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) made a significant arrest in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, apprehending an individual for allegedly issuing threats to detonate Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport unless paid “$1 million in Bitcoin.”

The investigation commenced following a threatening email received by Mumbai International Airport Limited, explicitly stating the demand and a 48-hour ultimatum for payment, as per an ATS official.

The email, received on Thursday at 11.06 am, warned of an imminent blast at Terminal 2 unless the demanded sum was transferred in Bitcoin. Subsequent threats promised another alert within 24 hours.

An FIR was filed under Sections 385 and 505 (1) (b) of the Indian Penal Code at the Sahar Police Station.

The ATS, leveraging its cyber cell, swiftly conducted a parallel investigation, successfully tracing the email’s originating IP address to Kerala. A team promptly traveled to the southern state, effecting the arrest of the suspect.

The identity of the arrested individual has not been disclosed by officials. They are en route to Mumbai and will be handed over to the Sahar police for further legal proceedings.
