In a display of continued support for the people affected by the conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, India has dispatched a second batch of crucial humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The region has been gripped by escalating violence that has resulted in a devastating toll on civilians, claiming numerous lives and causing widespread suffering.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the latest development, affirming India’s commitment to extending much-needed assistance to the people of Palestine. He shared that the second consignment, comprising 32 tonnes of aid, was dispatched via a C17 aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force to the El-Arish Airport in Egypt.

El-Arish Airport, situated approximately 45 kilometers away from the Rafah crossing on Egypt’s border with Gaza, serves as a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid into the embattled Gaza Strip.

This recent aid delivery follows India’s earlier initiative on October 22, where the country sent the first batch of essential support, including 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief materials. The assistance encompassed a spectrum of critical supplies such as life-saving medicines, surgical items, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, sanitary utilities, and water purification tablets, among other necessities.

The conflict, which has extended into its seventh week following the October 7 attack by Hamas militants, has brought immense suffering to both Palestinians and Israelis. Israel has intensified retaliatory strikes on Gaza in response to the attacks, resulting in significant casualties and widespread devastation.

India’s commitment to providing aid underscores its dedication to alleviating the humanitarian crisis and offering support to those affected by the conflict. The nation continues to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine during these challenging times.

This gesture of solidarity and support from India reflects the global community’s collective efforts to address the pressing humanitarian needs arising from the conflict and highlights the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis.

As the conflict persists, the international community remains hopeful that sustained efforts, coupled with diplomatic initiatives, will pave the way for a lasting resolution, ensuring peace, stability, and the well-being of the affected populations in the region.
