In a solemn tribute to the sacrifices made by India’s police force, Home Minister Amit Shah marked Police Commemoration Day by acknowledging the dedication and valor of these law enforcement officers. Amit Shah revealed that in the past year, a staggering 188 police officers have lost their lives in the line of duty, while ensuring the security and maintenance of law and order in the country.

Speaking at the commemoration event, Amit Shah paid his respects to a total of 36,250 policemen who have selflessly given their lives for the cause of India’s internal security since the country’s independence. He recognized the extraordinary commitment of the police, emphasizing that they face the toughest of challenges, working tirelessly in all conditions, be it day or night, winter or summer, holidays or regular days. These dedicated officers often spend important moments away from their families while safeguarding the nation.

Amit Shah also underscored the remarkable achievements of the police over the last decade. He noted that due to their unwavering efforts, terrorism, militant attacks, Naxalism, and ethnic violence have seen a substantial 65% reduction from their peak levels.

Additionally, Amit Shah highlighted the significance of three new criminal laws introduced in Parliament in August. These laws are set to bring about a profound transformation in India’s criminal justice system, replacing archaic British-era laws that have been in place for over 150 years. He emphasized that these new laws will not only reflect the essence of “Indianness” but will also safeguard the rights of every citizen in alignment with the principles of the Constitution of India.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on reducing the backlog of cases in the courts, Amit Shah expressed confidence that the nation is poised to enhance transparency and expedite the criminal justice system. This transformation will be achieved through the implementation of the Police Technology Mission, the introduction of the three groundbreaking laws, and the establishment of an Interoperable Criminal Justice System. These measures, Shah believes, will usher in a new era of efficiency and accountability in India’s criminal justice landscape.
