A tragic accident occurred on the Samruddhi Expressway in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, on Sunday, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and leaving 23 individuals injured. The incident took place around 12:30 am in the Vaijapur area of the expressway, nearly 350 kilometers from Mumbai.
The accident unfolded when a speeding mini-bus, carrying 35 passengers, collided with a container. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control, leading to the rear-end collision. Regrettably, this accident claimed the lives of 12 people, including five men, six women, and a minor girl. The 23 injured passengers were promptly admitted to a government hospital for medical treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep grief over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also wished a swift recovery to those injured in the accident. In a social media post from the Prime Minister’s Office, it was announced that an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 would be granted to the injured.
Additionally, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed his condolences for the 12 lives lost in this tragic accident. He announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and directed the administration to ensure that the injured receive proper treatment at the government’s expense.
