In Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the farmers under AIKS leadership have built a resolute resistance to the Bulldozer Raj under the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government. The struggle has been going on for 120 days now. The main issue relates to just compensation for land acquisition.
Yesterday 12 September the Greater Noida Development Authority was brought under siege by thousands of farmers who broke the barricades despite police resistance and put locks on both the main gates. Women and youth were a major source of mobilisation and strength of the struggle.
AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale, Vice President Inderjit Singh, Finance Secretary P Krishnaprasad, UP President Bharat Singh, UP Joint Secretary Digambar Singh, CKC Members Pushpendra Tyagi and Manoj Kumar, Rupesh Verma, Nidheesh Villatt, AIDWA Joint Secretary Asha Sharma, and others took part. Dr Ashok Dhawale, Inderjit Singh, Bharat Singh and Rupesh Verma addressed the farmers.
The Authority was forced to initiate talks on the demands of the farmers. They conceded most of the demands orally yesterday, but the AIKS has decided to continue the struggle until it gets the written minutes of the discussions tomorrow.
