Uttar Pradesh court has convicted Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Azam Khan in the 2019 hate speech case. The court has sentenced Azam Khan and 2 other accused to 3 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 2000 in the hate speech case of 2019, ANI reported.
The leader, however, applied for the bail soon and he was granted interim bail of 7 days.
A case was registered against Khan in 2019 at Milak Kotwali in Rampur for allegedly making remarks against CM Yogi Adityanath and IAS Aunjaneya Kumar Singh, the then DM.
Khan was reportedly booked under Sections 153A, 505-1 of Indian Penal Code along with sections 125 of the Representation of People Act 1951.

SP Pandey, Joint Director Prosecution Incharge, Rampur said that if the imprisonment is longer than 2 years, there is a danger to the MLA post. He’s sentenced to 3 years in prison.
