Mumbai: Barrister Vinod Tiwari, president Council for Protection of Rights and Grahak Bharti, Nagpur has in a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday has alleged Cartelisation of Airlines in increasing passenger air fares drastically and open loot of passengers by extra ordinary high increase in air fares. He has demanded immediate action against this unholy cartelisation of airlines operators to loot passengers.
Tiwari in his letter has alleged formation of an unlawful Cartelisation of Airlines operators in increasing passenger air fares drastically and open looting of passengers by extraordinary high increase in fares all of sudden since February 15. He has alleged that the hike is almost 150 percent to 200 percent in passenger air fares.

Giving details of how the air fares were being hiked, he said that until February 10, the passenger air fares of all airlines in India were in the range of Rs.1500 to Rs.3500 per sector in three slabs.
If tickets booked are more than 45 days before departure, fare used to be very low till 30 days, then in second slab, it used to be little higher, if tickets booked 15 days to 30 earlier, in 3rd slab, it used to be normal fare for upfront booking during period less than 15 days of travel dates, states Barrister Tiwari.
For example, in Nagpur-Mumbai-Nagpur sector the fare used to be 1800/2400/3400, same was case for Nagpur-Delhi-Nagpur sector it used to be 2400/3400/4500 in three slabs depending upon dates of travel booked in the three time slots.
This fare practice continued for the last 3 to 4 years, even earlier when air fares were quite reasonable.
But after February 15, all of sudden an unholy Cartelisation has been formed by Airlines operators to loot passengers under which airfares increased drastically all of sudden and big loot of air passages is going on without any control of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, alleges Barrister Tiwari.
In his letter, Barrister Tiwari has termed this as an open loot of air passengers due to unusual Cartelisation of airlines operators under the control of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and therefore, an immediate intervention is needed to stop such unfair practices. Barrister Tiwari has urged the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Civil Aviation to take immediate action and that the air travel fares be brought to rational level in the interest of the public at large.
