A Chandigarh district court has issued pre-cognisance notices to Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation, his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and the directors of Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd in connection with a complaint alleging cheating in a Being Human jewellery franchise business.
The order was passed by Judicial Magistrate Dr Ambika Sharma, who directed the respondents to appear during the pre-cognisance stage of the proceedings. The matter has been listed for October 5, 2026.
The complaint was filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta, who alleged that he invested nearly ₹3 crore after being persuaded to open a Being Human jewellery showroom. According to the complaint, more than ₹1 crore was spent on establishing the outlet while complying with all contractual obligations laid down by Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd, the company authorised to market Being Human jewellery.
Gupta has claimed that after the showroom became operational, the promised business support and regular supply of jewellery failed to materialise. He alleged that irregular inventory disrupted operations, affected sales and caused substantial financial losses over time.
The complaint further states that the supply outlet remained shut from February 2020 onwards, resulting in continued business disruptions and mounting losses amounting to several crores.
The businessman has also alleged that he was initially assured that Salman Khan would personally inaugurate the showroom. However, the launch event was reportedly attended by actor Aayush Sharma instead. Gupta has accused six individuals connected with the business of allegedly misrepresenting the franchise opportunity, leading him to make the investment.
At this stage, the case remains under pre-cognisance, meaning the court is yet to decide whether to formally take cognisance of the complaint. The notices have been issued to enable the respondents to present their submissions before any further legal action is considered.
Salman Khan has not issued any public statement regarding the matter so far.
