Baghpat: At least five people lost their lives, and over 60 others, including Jain disciples and police personnel, were injured after a makeshift stage collapsed during the ‘Nirvana Laddu Parv’ dedicated to Bhagwan Adinath in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat on Tuesday.
The collapse caused chaos and panic among the attendees, with several devotees trapped under the debris. Rescue operations were underway to free those stuck, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident and directed authorities to ensure prompt relief and medical treatment for the injured. Baghpat District Magistrate Asmita Lal confirmed five deaths, while two more fatalities are suspected but not officially confirmed yet.
