Bhopal: Political strategist Dr Atul Malikram on Sunday strongly demanded the immediate restoration of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in Madhya Pradesh, asserting that it is a constitutional right and not a political favour.
Addressing a massive public gathering organised by the OBC-SC-ST Joint Front at BHEL Dussehra Maidan in Bhopal, Dr Malikram said that the constitutional rights of the OBC community have been kept in limbo for years, which goes against the very spirit of social justice. The rally witnessed participation from over 70 social organisations from across the state.
Criticising the state government, he said that while authorities claim to provide 27 per cent reservation in vacancies, 13 per cent of posts are being kept on hold, which amounts to injustice against the OBC community.
“Twenty-seven per cent reservation is not a political agenda but a right guaranteed by the Constitution. We are not snatching anyone’s rights; we are only demanding what rightfully belongs to us. Without ensuring full rights for OBCs, the talk of social equality will remain incomplete,” Dr Malikram said.
He also advocated reservation in the private sector in proportion to population for SC, ST and OBC communities, stating that OBCs must also receive reservation benefits in private enterprises.
Notably, Dr Atul Malikram is currently playing an active role in the Madhya Pradesh unit of Apna Dal (S), led by Union Minister of State Anupriya Patel. Working closely with the party’s National General Secretary and Madhya Pradesh in-charge R.B. Singh Patel, he is engaged in organisational strengthening and strategic preparations for the upcoming elections.
His proactive stance on social justice issues is being seen as a significant intervention in state politics.
