New Delhi: In a significant development, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday sentenced former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment in connection with a murder case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The prosecution had sought the death penalty, but the court handed Kumar a life term for his role in the killing of a father-son duo during the riots.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who had convicted Kumar on February 12, announced the sentencing, marking another major step in the long-drawn legal battle for justice. The verdict had been reserved in December last year after the prosecution completed its arguments.
