Mumbai : The 24th edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) will be held in New Delhi from March 5-7, 2025. Organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), WSDS 2025 will serve as a key global forum for advancing climate action and sustainable development.

With its theme, ‘Accelerating Sustainable Development and Partnerships for Climate Action’, WSDS 2025 will highlight the urgency of global cooperation in tackling climate challenges. As the premier sustainability conference in the Global South, it will drive discussions on innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.

The summit will be inaugurated by the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav. It comes at a critical time—ten years after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement—as the world faces challenges in achieving climate and development targets.

Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, emphasized the role of partnerships in driving sustainable solutions, stating, “At WSDS 2025, we aim to inspire innovation and ambitious action through collaborations that transcend borders. This summit will be a vital platform for forging global partnerships and catalyzing real change.”

Key Focus Areas at WSDS 2025:
• Sustainable finance and investment for green growth
• Energy conservation and transition to clean energy
• Nature-based solutions and biodiversity conservation
• Climate resilience and adaptation strategies
• Innovations in sustainability and technology-driven solutions
• Mainstreaming sustainable development in policy frameworks

This year, WSDS 2025 will feature seven high-level sessions covering these critical topics, along with 24 conceptual components. Global leaders, policymakers, scientists, industry experts, and young changemakers will gather to shape actionable solutions.

The conference will also serve as a strategic platform for advancing discussions ahead of COP30 and laying the groundwork for COP33, which will be hosted in India. Key discussions will focus on strengthening Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), India’s role as a sustainability leader in the Global South, and accelerating the pace of climate action worldwide.

Dr. Shaili Kedia, creator of WSDS and Senior Fellow at TERI, highlighted the summit’s ambition, stating, “WSDS 2025 will drive action on three fronts—accelerating sustainable development, shaping key messages for COP30, and enhancing global ambition through NDC 3.0.”

With India emerging as a key voice in global climate diplomacy, WSDS 2025 is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping international sustainability policies and driving meaningful action towards a greener future.
