Patna: The counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 kicked off on Friday morning, setting the stage for a high-voltage political showdown. Early trends reveal a competitive fight, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holding leads in over 80 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan (MGB) is ahead in more than 60 constituencies as counting progresses.
The process began with the scrutiny of postal ballots, while the counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) commenced at 8:30 am. A massive security setup has been deployed across the state, with 4,372 counting tables and over 18,000 counting agents ensuring transparency and smooth conduct. While most exit polls hinted at an NDA victory, a few predicted a possible edge for the Mahagathbandhan, adding to the suspense.
Key Candidates and Early Leads:
- Raghopur: Tejashwi Yadav, the MGB’s CM face, is leading.
- Mahua: Tej Pratap Yadav has slipped to the third position in a surprise twist.
- Lakhisarai: Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha (BJP) holds a steady lead.
- Alinagar: Folk sensation Maithili Thakur (BJP) is leading.
- Chhapra: Actor-singer Khesari Lal Yadav (RJD) is ahead.
- Tarapur: Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhry (BJP) takes the lead.
- Danapur: Rit Lal Roy (RJD) is leading.
- Kishanganj: BJP’s Sweety Singh is ahead.
- Purnia: BJP’s Vijay Kumar Khemka leads comfortably.
- Mokama: JDU’s Anant Kumar Singh is leading against RJD’s Veena Devi; the seat recently made headlines after the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav.
According to the Election Commission of India, 2,616 candidates from 12 recognised political parties contested the two-phase polling held on November 6 and 11, with no constituency demanding a repoll.
