Delhi: A fresh political confrontation erupted in Parliament after Union Minister JP Nadda used the word “abodh” while referring to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The remark drew a sharp response from Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who questioned both the language used and the intent behind repeatedly preventing the Opposition leader from speaking.
Reacting strongly, Priyanka Gandhi said the Leader of Opposition must be given the opportunity to speak in the House and criticised what she described as a pattern of intimidation.
“He should be allowed to speak. Is this a way to talk about anyone?” she said. Taking her attack further, the Congress leader suggested that the ruling party’s discomfort stemmed from fear of tough questions being raised in Parliament.
“What are they scared of? That he will quote from a book? Or are they scared of the Epstein files? Or that we will question them on this deal (US–India trade agreement)?” Priyanka Gandhi asked.
Her remarks come amid repeated disruptions and heated exchanges in Parliament, with the Opposition accusing the government of deliberately silencing dissenting voices. The use of the term “abodh” has now added fuel to an already tense session, reinforcing claims by the Congress that democratic norms and parliamentary decorum are being undermined.
