New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to appoint senior leader Vijender Gupta as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, while Mohan Singh Bisht is expected to take on the role of Deputy Speaker, sources told India TV. However, an official confirmation is awaited.

Gupta, who secured 70,365 votes from the Rohini constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections, expressed gratitude to the party for considering him for the crucial position. “I am thankful to the party for giving me the responsibility of Speaker of Delhi Assembly. I will fulfill my responsibility… I hope we will have healthy discussions in the House,” he said ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.

Mohan Singh Bisht, who won from the Muslim-dominated Mustafabad constituency, is also being considered for the role of Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, Delhi is set to witness a historic political shift as Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta and her Council of Ministers will take the oath of office at the Ramlila Maidan on Thursday afternoon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the ceremony, marking the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years.
