Vijay Takes Oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Unveils First TVK Cabinet in Historic Power Shift

Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Sunday scripted a historic chapter in Tamil Nadu politics by taking oath as the state’s new Chief Minister at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium amid massive celebrations by supporters and party workers.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar administered the oath of office after formally inviting the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader to form the government following the alliance’s successful claim of majority support in the Assembly.

Alongside Vijay, nine ministers were also sworn into the new cabinet, marking the official beginning of the first-ever TVK-led government in the state.

The newly formed cabinet reflects a mix of experienced political faces, first-time legislators, professionals and close associates of Vijay who played crucial roles in the party’s rapid rise from a newly launched political outfit to the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.

Among the key names inducted into the cabinet is N Anand, widely known as Bussy Anand, one of Vijay’s closest confidants and the General Secretary of TVK. Representing the Thiyagarayanagar constituency in Chennai, Anand has been central to the party’s organisational structure since its launch in 2024.

Political strategist Aadhav Arjun, who managed TVK’s election campaign operations, also took oath as minister. Apart from his political role, he is known for his involvement in philanthropy and sports administration, including serving as President of the Basketball Federation of India.

Former Indian Revenue Service officer and doctor KG Arunraj joined the cabinet after winning from Tiruchengode. Before entering active politics, he handled policy and organisational responsibilities within the party.

Veteran leader K A Sengottaiyan, who shifted from the AIADMK to TVK ahead of the elections, was also inducted into the ministry after securing victory from Gobichettipalayam. His entry into Vijay’s party was seen as a major political boost for TVK during the campaign.

Advocate and party treasurer P Venkataramanan, who won from Mylapore, was sworn in as part of the cabinet alongside newly elected legislators CTR Nirmal Kumar from Thirupparankundram and Rajmohan from Egmore.

Dentist-turned-politician TK Prabhu, who emerged victorious from Karaikudi, and first-time MLA S Keerthana from Sivakasi also found a place in the ministry, highlighting the party’s attempt to project a blend of youth and professional leadership.

The oath ceremony witnessed heavy public turnout, celebratory scenes across Chennai and the presence of several political leaders, film personalities and alliance partners.

With Vijay officially assuming office, Tamil Nadu now enters a new political era led by one of the state’s biggest film stars who successfully transformed his mass popularity into electoral success within a short span of time.
