VCK Support Pushes Vijay’s TVK to Majority Mark, Tamil Nadu Coalition Government Likely Soon

Tamil Nadu’s post-election political uncertainty appears to be nearing a resolution as actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is now reportedly set to cross the majority mark with fresh backing from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).

According to political sources, the VCK has decided to extend unconditional support to the TVK-led alliance, significantly strengthening Vijay’s claim to form the next government in the state. Though the party has not yet made a formal public announcement, the move is being viewed as a major breakthrough in the ongoing government formation process.

The TVK alliance had already secured the support of 116 newly elected MLAs, including members from Congress and Left parties. With the addition of VCK’s two legislators, the coalition’s strength is expected to touch 118 seats — the exact majority required in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The development comes after days of intense political negotiations and uncertainty surrounding the numbers needed to stake claim to power. While Left parties reportedly backed Vijay without conditions, Congress support is said to have come after internal discussions and specific political understandings.

On Friday evening, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar and submitted letters of support from 116 MLAs. However, the Governor had not invited him to form the government as the alliance remained short of the required majority figure.

The meeting was Vijay’s third interaction with the Governor since the election results were declared on May 4. Earlier requests to form the government were reportedly put on hold due to the absence of sufficient numbers in support of the TVK-led front.

Political observers now believe the latest support from VCK could clear the final hurdle for Vijay, bringing Tamil Nadu closer to witnessing its first government led by the newly formed TVK.
