Uttrakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has tendered his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya late on Friday night, reported news agency ANI. Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a legislature party meeting at 3 pm tomorrow at the party headquarters. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of state president Madan Kaushik, said state’s media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan.

Tirath Singh Rawat resigned as CM after meeting the Governor at around 11.15 PM.

As per reorts, the next CM will be an MLA.

Tirath Singh Rawat after resigning said, “I resigned today, as arise Constitutional Crisis which due to sections 164 and 151 of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951. U am thankful to the party leadership for bestowing so many responsibilities!

In case Tirath Singh Rawat does not get elected to the Uttarakhand Assembly by September 10, the state would be staring at a constitutional crisis. There is a lot of grey area as to what would happen in such a scenario.

Sources say in order to avoid this uncertainty in Uttarakhand, which goes to polls next year, a way out for the BJP would be to replace Tirath Singh Rawat with a new chief minister. Doing this would bypass the six month condition.

In his letter to JP Nadda, Tirath Singh Rawat has referred to Article 164A which mentions the six month condition
