Uttar Pradesh: Government reduces weekly restrictions, lockdown only on Sunday

Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the weekly restrictions period in state has been reduced to 24 hours only. Earlier ir was being imposed regularly on weekends for 2 days, that is on Saturday and Sunday.

A letter issued by Chief Secretary RK Tiwari says that restrictions will only be implacable from midnight of Saturday to midnight of Sunday now, though essential services will still be allowed in this period. Meanwhile, Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to ramp up coronavirus testing in the state and increase its daily limit from the current 1.49 lakh.

A total of more than 57.76 lakh tests have been conducted in state till date.The chief minister said that till the time a vaccine is not developed, mass testing is one of the best practices to keep a check on the spread of the contagious virus. Meanwhile Fifty seven more persons died due to Corona Virus in state raising the toll to 3,542, while 5,571 fresh cases pushed the state’s active cases count to 55538. State capital Lucknow continues to have the highest number of patients in state.
