Urban voter apathy pulls down overall voting percentage in phase 2 of Gujarat assembly polls, raises anxiety in political parties

Ahmedabad: The euphoria over the overwhelming voter turnout in the first phase of polling on December 1 largely caused due to the river Narmada waters reaching hinterlands of Kutch region of Gujarat, was short-lived on Monday as apathy of the urban voter has pulled down the overall approximate polling percentage in the 93 assembly constituencies spread across 14 districts that went to polls in phase two of polling, to 59.11%, just falling short of the 60% mark.

The highest polling percentage of 78.02% was recorded in Tharad assembly constituency in Banaskantha district. While the lowest polling percentage of 45.25% in Naroda assembly constituency of Ahmedabad district.
