Mumbai: It is very surprising to see the Shinde-Fadnavis led Maharashtra government wilting under the pressure of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, remarked Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national spokesperson, Clyde Crasto on Monday.
In a statement issued here, the NCP spokesperson stated that media reports clearly said that Maharashtra ministers Chandrakant Patil and Shambhuraj Desai were due to visit Belgaum after being appointed to coordinate with a legal team regarding the court case and hold talks on the border row between Maharashtra and Karnataka.
But Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asked them not come keeping in mind the current situation of unrest at the border, a situation that he himself created by his unnecessary statements on the sub-judice border issue.
Today Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis says that these ministers were due to visit Belagavi only for the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the death anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, but the visit is cancelled now because it may create an unrest on that day.
Crasto remarked, “Why this U turn? Was his government not aware of the importance of that day? Were they not aware of the prevailing disturbance in peace before they announced the visit?”
Truth is, the Maharashtra government is wilting under the pressure put by Bommai and allowing him to get things his way, claimed Crasto.
It is a shame that Bommai who is from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is allowed to do what he is doing in another BJP allied state and the centre and BJP are behaving as mute spectators. This strange behaviour from the BJP raises a question, is there something more here than meets the eye? asked Crasto.
