UP Assembly Pulls All-Nighter Over Vision 2047; BJP, SP Trade Fiery Blows

Lucknow: In an extraordinary 24-hour marathon sitting, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly convened at 11 am on Wednesday and did not adjourn until the same time Thursday, with debates stretching through the night over the state’s ambitious Vision 2047 plan. Ministers from multiple departments took turns detailing long-term goals, while the opposition locked horns with the treasury benches in a series of heated exchanges.

Fisheries Minister Dr. Sanjay Nishad used his address to launch an attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Congress. “Before we came, Congress and BSP had already been wiped out; now, the remaining SP will also be cleared from the House,” he declared. Presenting his department’s future blueprint, Nishad said the focus was on empowering fish farmers with AI-driven tools to boost economic and social standing.

He submitted 28 proposals to the Speaker and compared India’s economic resilience to its colonial past: “The Mughals and British looted us for 1,000 years, yet we were 20–30 times richer than them. But in 70 years, Congress looted so much that we fell behind. Even so, India’s economy is now ahead of Britain’s — this is a matter of pride.”

Minister of State for Homeguards Dharamveer Prajapati criticised opposition leaders for skipping the Vision 2047 debate. “They are neither willing to help build a developed India and UP nor willing to even listen — this is extremely unfortunate,” he said. He highlighted plans to increase women’s participation in the Homeguards, train them with INSAS rifles, and offer social security benefits. Prajapati also pointed to infrastructure gains, such as cutting Bundelkhand–Delhi travel time from 10 hours to 6 via the Bundelkhand Expressway, and claimed electricity now reaches all 75 districts, unlike the “VIP-only” power supply of previous governments.

On the other side, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav unleashed a scathing rebuttal, demanding that the BJP release a “Reason Document” instead of a Vision Document. “The BJP government has completely failed — in law and order, flood control, education, health, and development,” he charged. Accusing the ruling party of spreading “hatred and discrimination,” Yadav alleged that in nine years, “not a single power plant has been built, roads remain full of potholes, and lakhs of people continue to suffer from floods.”
