Union Minister Chirag Paswan Receives Death Threat on Social Media Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

Patna: Tensions are rising ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections as Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan has reportedly received a death threat on social media. The threat, which emerged just days after Paswan formally announced his intention to contest the upcoming elections, has triggered a police complaint and a cyber investigation.

According to party spokesperson Rajesh Bhatt, the threat was issued through an Instagram account operating under the name ‘Tiger Meraj Idisi’. A formal complaint was submitted to the Patna Cyber Police Station on Friday, citing concerns over the security of the minister and alleging criminal intent behind the online message.

Authorities have acknowledged the complaint. The Cyber Crime unit has registered a case and begun tracing the origin of the Instagram account. Officials confirmed that the threat was received around 9 p.m. on July 11, and that legal proceedings have been initiated to identify and apprehend the individual responsible.

The threat comes shortly after Paswan’s campaign kickoff event in Saran, where he announced his candidature with a strong message of change and development. His declaration marked the start of a high-stakes political battle in Bihar, with various parties ramping up their electoral preparations.

While no arrest has been made yet, officials said the investigation is ongoing and assured that appropriate action will be taken. Meanwhile, Paswan’s supporters have voiced concerns over the potential security risk to the party leader, especially given the volatile political climate in the state.
