Mumbai: United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday for his first official visit to India since taking office, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations. The two-day trip focuses on deepening cooperation in trade, investment, defence, technology, education, and cultural exchange.
Starmer was received at the Mumbai airport with a warm welcome by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Governor Acharya Devvrat. Accompanying him is a delegation of over 120 senior business leaders, university vice-chancellors, and cultural representatives, reflecting the UK’s commitment to enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors.
On his first day, Starmer is scheduled to visit Yash Raj Studios, attend a football match at Mumbai’s Cooperage Ground, and meet with leading Indian industrialists. In the evening, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host preliminary talks to pave the way for the second day’s high-level diplomatic and business meetings.
Thursday will see Starmer meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai. The UK Prime Minister will also participate in the CEO Forum and the Global Fintech Fest 2025 at the Jio World Centre in Bandra. Discussions are expected to cover digital technology, defence manufacturing, clean energy, and educational initiatives, highlighting the shared vision of a forward-looking partnership.
