Two hybrid militants arrested in Handwara, arms and ammunition recovered, says J&K Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two hybrid militants in North Kashmir’s Handwara, officials said.

On Aug 4, joint parties of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, 21 RR and 92 Bn CRPF had arrested two hybrid militants in Handwara and recovered arms and ammunition from them. A FIR No. 213/2022 u/s 13 UAPA and 7/25 Arms Act had been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation was initiated.

Based on leads developed during investigation, the role of two individuals emerged in the conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts, namely – Aijaz Ahmad Bhat @ Hilal, S/o Khazir Mohammad Bhat, R/o Humpora and Naseer Ahmad Mir, S/o Mohammad Ramzan Mir, R/o Sagipora. 

They have been arrested and based on their disclosure, a cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, 21RR and 92 Bn CRPF. The recovery includes two pistols, four pistol magazines and 58 pistol rounds, and six hand-grenades. 

Further investigation in the matter is underway.
