Trump executes his threat, stops funding of ‘China centric’ WHO

Mumbai: After having made it venting his anger aimed at the World Health Organisation (WHO) in one of his earlier White House briefing on April 9, calling the United Nations Organisation (UNO) world health body ‘very China centric’ and ‘mismanaging’ the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that the US administration “is halting funding of the World Health Organisation while a review is conducted to assess WHO’s role in mismanaging the Coronavirus outbreak”.

In his media briefing at the White House, US President Donald Trump said “today I am instructing my administration to halt funding of World Health Organisation (WHO), while a review is conducted to assess WHO’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak”.

He went on to further add “American tax payers provide 400 to 500 billion dollars per year and in contrast China roughly contributes 40 billion dollars and even less. As the leading sponsor of the organisation, the US has the right to insist on full accountability. One of the most deadly and costly decision from the WHO was to oppose travel restrictions from China and other nations. They (WHO) were very much opposed to what we did, I was not convinced and suspended travel from China, saving lives, thousands and thousands of lives would have been lost.”

On April 9, the day the US President expressed his displeasure and vented his anger directed at the WHO, the US House of Representative Committee on Oversight and Reforms had already shot off a letter to WHO Director General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus asking him to cooperate with the committees investigations.

The 14 member committee comprising of Congressmen Jim Jordan and Jody B Hice have charged Dr Tedros and the WHO of denying the human-to-human spread of Coronavirus while relying on Chinese propaganda, delay in declaring Coronavirus as pandemic, delay in recommending travel restrictions and continued praise of China’s efforts to combat the crisis and its cover-up.

While the committee in its letter has stressed that it has “broad authority to investigate ‘any matter’ at ‘anytime’, it has made some scathing remarks about the WHO and Dr Tedros. The committee has called upon the WHO and Dr Tedros to provide all its (WHOs) staff level briefings no later than April 16.

The Committee in its letter has remarked “given the actions and statements of WHO officials during the past few months, we are concerned that the WHO is no longer serving the needs of the world and instead ‘taking its cues’ from China”. It has further slammed the WHO accusing it of shying away from placing any blame on the Chinese government, which in essence the Communist Party of China (CPC). “You as the leader of WHO even went so far as to praise the Chinese government for ‘transparency’ during the crisis”, adds the Committee letter.

We at TheNews21.com on March 28 last month carried a news item “Republicans accuse China of misinformation on COVID19, demand international probe”. Three Republican Congressmen led by Jim Banks and others on May 24 had moved a Resolution in the House of Representatives demanding an international investigation into the handling of the COVID19 outbreak and its worldwide impact.

In another of our report “leaders, experts demand action against China over coronavirus pandemic” published on March 22, had world leaders and Congressman Jim Banks demanding China be held accountable and made to pay for its actions. While in our report on March 25, a law suit filed in the US has accused China of violating Biological Weapons Convention.
