Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Mahua Moitra has issued a pointed response to claims made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey regarding a recommendation by the anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal for a CBI probe into the cash-for-query scandal. Moitra, known for her outspoken demeanor, expressed her thoughts on the matter through a series of social media posts, questioning the timing and nature of the Lokpal’s actions.

In her posts, Mahua Moitra quipped, “Lok Pal Abhi Zinda Hai (Lokpal is still alive).. Very happy to know Modiji’s Lok Pal exists – & been spurred into action by specially bred pit bulls,” hinting at the alleged political motivations behind the probe. She added a touch of sarcasm, stating, “Bit humiliating for Lokpal’s office to outsource such important announcements to canine farms, eh?”

Nishikant Dubey had earlier asserted that Lokpal had recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into allegations against Moitra. He claimed that Moitra had accepted bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for access to her parliamentary digital account and for posting questions targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The controversy initiated when Dubey provided evidence from Moitra’s former acquaintance, Jai Anant Dehadrai, which he presented to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The matter was subsequently referred to the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha for further investigation.

The exchange of allegations between MPs from opposing political parties underscores the heightened tension and scrutiny of such cases in India’s political landscape. As the Lokpal inquiry progresses, it is expected to shed light on the veracity of the accusations made against Mahua Moitra and any potential implications for her political career.
