Mumbai: Despite the city of Mumbai being eligible for Unlocking Level 1 relief, Level 3 restrictions continued to be imposed on Mumbai traders and the public. It seems that now the government, the babus and most of the people have forgotten that in the days before Corona pandemic, shops were used to remain open officially till 8-10 pm.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mitesh Mody President, All India Electronics Association and Honorary Secretary Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra, Industry and Trade (CAMIT), stated “despite numerous requests, proposals and representations being made and various ministers repeatedly predicting unlocking, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is not at all kind towards the traders and people of Mumbai and does not seem to be in no mood to sign on the government orders.

“It is incomprehensible that what hurts is that the Chief Minister, the Task Force, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as well as the Cabinet Ministers are in favour of easing sanctions to boost the economy. The people want to know the reasons for this.  Do they want the shops of small and medium traders to be locked up forever?  Will middle class fall below the poverty line (BPL)?”, asked Mitesh Mody

Mody further remarked that the Mathadi Kamgars (Head-loaders) and the daily wage laborers whose daily existence depends upon the shops running full time are starving. Never before has there been so much helplessness felt by business community in recent times, he added.

“Numerous traders are facing financial and psychological crisis due to lack of government support in this Corona pandemic and the extended lockdowns. If they do not get immediate help, their destruction is imminent and revolution seems to be the only option.  Merchants get ready for a revolution to sustain your own existence!”, warned an exasperated Mody.
