TMC collected property taxes of Rs 152 crores during the pandemic period

Thane: Amidst the coronavirus outbreak, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has collected the property tax of Rs 152 crores across the nine prabhag samiti (Ward Committee) of the corporation just within 53 days, informed by a civic official of TMC on Wednesday.

According to a civic official, a team was headed by Assistant Municipal Commissioner  (AMC) Sanjay Herwade for collection of property taxes across the city. 

The civic official said that a total of nine Prabhag samiti in TMC in which one of Majiwada-Manpada Prabhag samiti is one of highest collection of the property tax of Rs 46.07 crores till September (this year).

Dr Vipin Sharma, Commissioner of TMC has given direction to every wards officer to enhance the collection of tax. 

It is notable that amidst the coronavirus outbreak, the civic officials of TMC were engaged to contain the spread of the virus in the city. But, on the other hand, another team of the civic body had enhanced to generate the revenue by a collection of property taxes.

Last year, nearly 42.05 crores of the total property tax had been collected from July 16 to September 6. This year, Rs 152.64 crores worth of property tax has been collected from July 16 to September 6. Although, nearly three times extra tax was collected by a civic official of the property tax department of TMC.

Out of Rs 152.64 crores of (Property tax collections), Rs 5.14 crores has collected of Diva prabhag samiti, Rs 8.3 crores of Kalwa, prabhag samiti,

Rs 8.9 crores of Lokmanyanagar,  Prabhag Samiti, Rs 46.07 crores of Majiwad-Manpada, Prabhag Samiti, Rs 28.85 crores of Naupada Kopari, prabhag Samiti, Rs 14.58 of Uthalsal, prabhag samiti, Rs 29.65 crores of Vartaknagar,  prabhag samiti, Rs 5.90 of Wagale estate, prabhag samiti, Rs 3.71 of Mumbra, prabhag samiti,

Property tax is one of the prime sources of revenue generation by the TMC. Municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma has thanked every citizen of Thane who has shown their first priority to pay the taxes to TMC during the pandemic.-By Narendra Gupta
