Mumbai: In a powerful and timely message, Amit Thackeray has slammed the politicisation of internal terrorist attacks by the BJP and other political parties, calling it a betrayal of national sentiment and responsibility. His strongly worded open letter to the Prime Minister has been described as a “stern slap” to all political forces trying to gain mileage from the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent brief conflict with Pakistan.

Referring to the attack in Pahalgam where 26 innocent Indians were killed, Thackeray criticised the government’s failure to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Instead of ensuring severe punishment to those responsible, the BJP has attempted to showcase the situation as a triumph against Pakistan,” he wrote, adding that the declaration of a ceasefire within two days exposes the hollowness of the government’s intent.

“The real issue remains unresolved, yet BJP and its allies have begun celebrating across the country. What exactly was achieved?” Thackeray questioned. He pointed out that families of the martyred soldiers and civilians have received neither justice nor closure, and the government has failed to address the root of the problem—eradicating terrorism from within.

Amit Thackeray strongly condemned what he described as BJP’s repeated pattern of using public sentiment and patriotism for political gains, citing the previous instance of the 2019 air strike and the current situation of a brief two-day conflict now being branded as “victory.”

In his letter, Thackeray warned against trusting Pakistan too easily. “Given their track record, Pakistan has betrayed India on multiple occasions under the guise of peace. Thus, the government must also focus on sensitising and mentally preparing the public for potential conflict rather than celebrating prematurely,” he wrote.

Thackeray acknowledged the unwavering faith citizens place in their leadership and urged that this faith be respected. “We still believe our government is sensitive to the sacrifices made by our soldiers. So I humbly request that celebrations be postponed until we achieve actual results and justice is served,” he stated.

He emphasises that current events do not reflect victory, but a temporary ceasefire. “Celebrations at a time when brave soldiers have lost their lives is deeply painful for many citizens. Instead of parades and events, the government should focus on fostering awareness, vigilance, and responsibility among the public.”

Thackeray’s stand has been widely appreciated for its political maturity. His letter has struck a chord with many who believe that real victory lies in dismantling sleeper cells and ensuring the complete destruction of the terror network behind the Pahalgam attack. Only then, he says, will the souls of the martyrs rest in peace—and only then will the entire country spontaneously take to the streets in celebration, without needing political orchestration.
