Preparations for the hanging of the four death row convicts of the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case are underway at Delhi’s maximum security Tihar jail.
The four convicts are to be hanged in jail number three premises which houses the frame of the gallows, sources said here on Tuesday.
The jail authorities are likely to approach the hangman at Meerut jail for the job, sources said here. The specially made rope for the hanging has been procured from Buxar in Bihar.
Four convicts of the Nirbhaya case are lodged in the Tihar jail.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi court on Tuesday issued death warrants for the four convicts in the horrific Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case which had shaken the conscience of the nation.
One of the six convicts, a juvenile who was just short of 18 when the barbaric crime took place, was released after three years in a reform home. Another, Ram Singh, hanged himself in jail.
The court today accepted the plea seeking the issuance of ‘black warrant’ against the four convicts.
It ruled that the convicts will be hanged on January 22 at 7am. On the fateful night of December 16, 2012, the 23-year-old para-medic student, was gang-raped on a moving bus, tortured with an iron rod and dumped by the roadside by six men. She died in a Singapore hospital days later. UNI
