Tension Grips Pune’s Yavat Village Over Objectionable Post; CM Fadnavis Appeals for Peace, Ajit Pawar Visits Area

Pune: A tense situation unfolded in Yavat village, located in Daund Taluka of Pune District, Maharashtra, following the circulation of an alleged objectionable social media post by a youth. According to local police, the village had already been on edge due to an earlier incident that occurred a week ago, and the latest post acted as a trigger, prompting residents to take to the streets.

Amid the unrest, a group of youngsters attempted to vandalize a structure, though no injuries were reported. In response, the administration swiftly deployed heavy police personnel to maintain law and order in the area.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited the village on Friday to assess the ground situation and meet with affected locals. His presence aimed to reassure the community and help defuse the tension through direct dialogue.

Addressing the media, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis provided details about the incident. He stated, “According to the initial information, a person from outside the area posted an objectionable status that incited public outrage. People took to the streets, and in order to control the crowd, police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge. The situation is now under control.”

CM Fadnavis also emphasized that individuals with malicious intent often circulate provocative content to disturb communal harmony. “Some people deliberately post such statuses to create tension, but strict action will definitely be taken. No one has the right to make offensive remarks about any religion. The law will deal firmly with those who attempt to spread hatred,” he asserted.

He further warned against drawing hasty conclusions, stating that video clips related to the incident will be verified to ensure they are genuine and not manipulated. “Many times, videos turn out to be doctored or from unrelated incidents. We are investigating that as well,” he said.

In a firm appeal to citizens, Fadnavis added, “Our only request is for everyone to maintain peace. No one should take the law into their own hands. The police are fully prepared to act strictly against anyone who tries to incite violence.”
