Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Accuses PM Modi of Blocking OBC Reservation Push, Demands Presidential Nod for 42% Quota

New Delhi: In a fiery statement from Delhi, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy escalated his attack on the BJP-led Centre, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of deliberately obstructing efforts to secure 42% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in education, employment, and political representation in local bodies.

Speaking to the press, CM Revanth Reddy said, “We are demanding that 42% reservation be implemented across education, employment, and in political structures like local bodies. We want the President of India to give assent to the bills we’ve passed in Telangana to enable this. However, despite seeking an appointment with the President, we’ve been denied one.” He went on to allege that, “I think PM Modi and Amit Shah are pressuring the President not to give time to leaders from Telangana.”

Reddy emphasized that the Telangana government’s demand is rooted in justice and equity for OBC communities, and said it reflects the broader ideological commitment of the Congress party. “We are pro-OBC. Rahul Gandhi is pro-OBC. But Narendra Modi is anti-OBC,” he declared.

The Chief Minister further stated that the Congress will pursue the demand for 42% reservation with full political force. “Now, all our MLAs, MPs, and representatives from rural Telangana have come to Delhi to press this issue. If Modi accepts our demand, it’s good. If he refuses, we will defeat him politically and make Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister to implement this quota.”

The bold assertion by Reddy is part of a growing national discourse on the demand for expanded OBC representation, particularly in the run-up to the 2026 general elections. The Congress party has been positioning itself as a champion of backward classes, even as the BJP counters with its own narrative around development and social welfare.
