Delhi: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday launched a fierce attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, alleging large-scale abuse of power and “systematic suppression” of political opponents ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. His remarks come amid a growing political storm over recent arrests of BJP and opposition leaders in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Surya said the arrests reflected the “deeply undemocratic mindset” of the DMK leadership. He accused Chief Minister M. K. Stalin of “borrowing inspiration” from authoritarian communist regimes of the past and using state machinery to intimidate critics.
Surya further alleged that the state government was deliberately defying judicial orders. He pointed out that despite court permission for devotees to light traditional lamps at a temple, the police were “blocking the ritual under political pressure,” calling it an “open challenge to constitutional norms.”
He warned that such actions were not going unnoticed by the public.
“As the 2026 elections approach, the people of Tamil Nadu have made up their minds,” Surya said. “This undemocratic, fascist government will be thrown out. Tamil Nadu is ready for a political change, and democracy will prevail.”
The BJP MP added that the party would continue to raise its voice against what he called the DMK’s “politics of fear and intimidation,” promising to fight “both legally and politically” against suppression of rights.
