Mumbai: Mumbai’s much-awaited underground Metro Line 3—one of the city’s most ambitious transport corridors—encountered its first major technical setback on Tuesday morning when a metro train came to an unexpected halt inside the tunnel near Siddhivinayak station. The sudden stoppage caused anxiety among passengers and disrupted operations along the Aqua Line, which connects Aarey to Cuffe Parade.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am, when the train’s system detected an internal fault, immediately activating automatic safety protocols. This forced the rake to stop inside the tunnel before entering Siddhivinayak station. Commuters were stranded for a short while before officials initiated evacuation procedures.

According to metro authorities, trained staff guided passengers out of the stalled train and escorted them safely to the station platform. No injuries or safety risks were reported.
