Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday announced that the state government has decided to abandon its proposed plan to develop a second airport at Parandur, near Chennai.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Budget Session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, where the Chief Minister said the government had taken the decision amid sustained protests over the proposed airport project.
The Parandur airport proposal had faced opposition from residents and protesters in the surrounding areas. Concerns had been raised over the potential impact of the project on local communities and land.
Speaking in the Assembly, Vijay confirmed that his government would no longer proceed with the proposed Parandur airport project.
